Mercerization: Strength & Luster

Before the color is applied, the fabric must be prepared. Mercerization is a critical pre-treatment at our facility. By treating cotton with a sodium hydroxide solution, we swell the fibers, changing their cross-section from a bean shape to a rounder one.

The Results:

  1. Increased Luster: The rounded fibers reflect light more evenly.
  2. Dye Affinity: The fabric absorbs 20-30% more dye, reducing chemical waste.
  3. Tensile Strength: The fabric becomes significantly more durable for the consumer market.
